Oak Park

Oak Park grew up as Sacramento’s first suburb and once had a second downtown of its own. Today Broadway and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard are lined with restaurants, markets and community events.

Discover Oak Park

Oak Park is bounded roughly by U.S. 50 on the north, Stockton Boulevard on the east, Highway 99 on the west and Fruitridge Road on the south, with Broadway and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard as its main streets. (Wikipedia)

It was Sacramento’s first suburb, linked to downtown by streetcar, and it grew its own shopping and entertainment district along 35th Street. In the early 1900s it was close to the California State Fairgrounds. (Wikipedia)

Freeway building in the 1960s divided the neighborhood and drained it of people for years. Since the early 2000s it has been coming back, near the UC Davis Medical Center, the McGeorge School of Law and Sacramento High School. (Wikipedia)

The neighborhood’s annual events include the Oak Park Farmers Market, the Sacramento Asian Pacific Film Festival, the Sacramento Black Book Fair and Day of the Dead Oak Park. (Wikipedia)
