East Sacramento

East Sacramento was a streetcar suburb: big shade trees, large old houses in the Fabulous Forties, and McKinley Park with its 1928 rose garden.

Discover East Sacramento

East Sacramento began to be built up in the 1890s and was annexed into the city in 1911. It lies east of Midtown, between the freeways and the American River. (Wikipedia)

McKinley Park is about 32 acres. The city bought it in 1902 and renamed it for President William McKinley after his assassination the year before. The rose garden was created in 1928. (Wikipedia)

The Fabulous Forties, between 38th and 47th Streets, take their name from the large lots and big houses along those streets. They sit at the old end of the J Street streetcar line, and Ronald Reagan lived at 1341 45th Street while he was governor. (Wikipedia)
