Downtown & the Capitol
Downtown is where Sacramento does the state’s business and a good deal of its play: the Capitol and its park, the oldest art museum in the West, and the arena where the Kings play.

Discover Downtown & the Capitol
The Capitol was built between 1860 and 1874 and crowned with a dome 210 feet high. A restoration from 1975 to 1982 rebuilt it for earthquake safety, and it was rededicated on January 9, 1982. (Wikipedia)
Around it, Capitol Park holds 40 acres of gardens: roughly 1,140 trees of more than 200 kinds, and about 155 memorials. Between 11th and 12th Streets, the Pioneer Camellia Grove was planted in 1942. (Wikipedia)
The Crocker Art Museum, founded in 1885, is the oldest art museum in the Western United States. It grew from Judge E. B. Crocker’s Victorian gallery, and a 100,000-square-foot addition opened on October 10, 2010. (Wikipedia)
Golden 1 Center, the arena where the Sacramento Kings play, opened in 2016 and earned LEED Platinum certification. (Wikipedia)
